Character of the Malinois
The standout trait of the Malinois is their high drive. At times it may seem like they never get tired, even after playing fetch for an hour. Burning off their energy is a must or they will become anxious or aggressive! And they have to be mentally stimulated as well. Being around their humans is very important to them, leaving them alone for long periods of time will also stress them out and they become destructive to calm themselves down.
If you are capable of tiring them out, they turn into happy, content dogs and show off their positive traits. Their loyalty, intelligence and high willingness to work makes them ideal for training in high-level dog sports and as working dogs with near universal uses.
Socialization from an early age is very important to help them build confidence. Meeting other dogs, large crowds and children will help them develop excellent behaviour. But this will not lead to lower energy levels.
